Fabric Baskets

This weekend I finally decided to branch out and make something other than a quilt.  I have been wanting to use this great tutorial from Pink Penguin for what seems like forever!  It was easy to follow the steps, but I made my baskets a bit bigger and the handles a bit thinner.  I love how they turned out, and I'm sure I'll make more in the future!  I think I will use them to hold my scraps instead of the Ziploc bags I'm using now.

Here's a quick list of the measurements I changed:
Patchwork: 8 fabrics, one 3 x 9" piece of each; use them to make 3 four-patch blocks for each side
Base: 9 x 15.75"
Boxed corner: 2.5" (from seam to pointy end)
Handles: 2  1.5 x 17" rectangles
Lining: 19.5 x 15.5"

Finished length: about 10" at base, 12" at top
Finished height: 6.75" (not including handles)
Finished width: 5" at base, about 6" at top

Trying Something New

I think every crafter comes to the point where they are quite comfortable making different variations on the same old thing.  I have arrived.  So, I've decided to try something new.  I found a wonderful tutorial for sketchy applique stitching at Bloomin' Workshop, and I realized that it's time to branch out.  This could be an absolute disaster, but it could also be fun.  So, here goes nothing!  Have you tried anything new lately?
