More T-Shirt Quilts!

Right now, I'm working on two t-shirt quilts.  Every time I make one, I find it more and more enjoyable.  There's something very satisfying about taking a person's old yet precious t-shirts and making them into something new and useful again.  I picture all the places they went with their owner, all the memories they hold.  I'm nostalgic that way.

Here is a preview of the first quilt.

The top of this one is almost complete.  It needs some borders, and then it will be ready to be quilted.

WIP Wednesday

Maybe you can relate to this.  I have far too many ideas of things to make and far too little time to get any of it done.  Sigh.  This week, I've been away from everything quilt related.  I have, however, spent some quality time with my husband's family at the beach.  I also read a book...which doesn't happen often!  This t-shirt memory quilt is the only project I have in progress right now, but it certainly is a special one.

Wip Wednesday (on Thursday night...)

Unfortunately, I haven't done too much in the way of sewing this week.  This little block is the only thing I've done...  Sigh...  It will hopefully become part of an effort to spruce up my kitchen, but it will have to wait until next week.

Instead of sewing, I have been constantly checking my mailbox in hopes that a package from Spoonflower would arrive.  No luck yet.  If you haven't seen their website yet, go check it out!  You can create your own fabric designs or buy fabric designed by others.  It's one way to get something truly unique!

This week, I've been working on a commissioned quilt and a little time-saving tutorial to go with it. The main fabric for this quilt is 2D Zoo in chocolate by Michael Miller, and it's absolutely adorable! This will be the only picture I can show of this little guy until he goes to live in his new home...

Spring to Finish Challenge 2010

So, I've been away from my sewing machine for a while, but I'm back now. My craft table is finished and in place (pictures to come), and it is beautiful. My husband is amazing!! I am ready to tackle my next set of projects, so I decided to go public with my "To Make" list. I joined the Spring to Finish Challenge 2010 over at Tallgrass Prairie Studio. Here is my little list:

1. Duvet cover and pillow shams for our master bedroom
2. Baby boy quilt for a friend, starring 2D Zoo by Michael Miller (in chocolate)
3. Quilt with circles...I've always wanted to do it, so now is the time. I am also going to try to do a bit of hand quilting on this one, which will be a new experience for me. I found this great tutorial by designer Anna Maria Horner. My hubby's grandmother also knows how to do this, so I'll have to take some lessons while she's here visiting!

WIP Wednesday

I happen to be slightly obsessed with birds right now. I'm really not sure why, except for the fact that they are so cute! So, today's work in progress is all about little birdies! Right now, I am trying to find/create a pattern I like to make some bird softies for several different uses. Here are my first two attempts.

This one is made from a pattern in the book Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson (which I highly recommend). It is very simple, which makes it quite charming.

The one with the tail comes from a pattern on spoolsewing.com. I'm not sure if I messed something up, but it seems to have an extremely curved beak.

So, next time, I think I'll try drawing my own pattern. Do you ever draw your own patterns?
